Though the wave in this picture was just five or six feet tall, staring at it takes me into the world of the of the Japanese fishermen seen on old Japanese wood block prints. The wave looms up in front of them in all it's many toothed fearsome splendor about to come down and smash their little boat to pieces. The image of the wave is eternally hovering over them fixed in a concrete liquid incongruity.
